Brian Kappus sprints out of the transition area en route to one of the faster bikes splits of the day

JJ Kaye is the first Bruin and first non-pro to finish, just ahead of a female pro.

Marcus nears the finish line.

Marcus comes in about a minute and a half behind JJ, and the 2nd non-pro.

Marcus, Brian, and Eagle enjoyin the post-race snacks.

JJ and Marcus go 1-2 overall. Bruins crush!

Everybody to the limit! (link)

The JJ-Marcus play-by-play:

Pro Marc Lees is center front. JJ stands right behind. Marcus is behind him.

And they're off!

Navigating the Zuma surf.

JJ is quick to exit the water, just behind several of the pros

Wetsuit removal begins for a fast transition

JJ exits T1, before Marcus is even out of the water

Marcus exits the water 4 minutes behind JJ

But starts to make up places...

Runing up the beach

But, man, that hurts!

Savoring the upcoming bike.

JJ exits the Zuma parking lot

Making up time on the way

But Marcus is closing in with a fast bike

But JJ starts the run with a 2 and a half minute lead on Marcus

Man, that's a lot of time to make up!

JJ has no worries, as he aims to catch some of the pros

Cant see anyone but those darn relays

Ack!

JJ passes a female pro at the line

Taking 1st overall in age-group competition

Marcus puts on a finishing sprint, but finishes 1:30 behind JJ

He still takes 2nd overall in age-group competition

But still eyes that first place medal.
